What advice would you give when booking international flights online?

I've never booked a trip online before and am a little apprehensive. Would appreciate any advice you might have to ensure that my trip is safe and trouble free. Thanks. What advice would you give when booking international flights online?
there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck. What advice would you give when booking international flights online?
For international bookings if you will be making any stops in between makes sure that the time between flights is AT LEAST TWO HOURS. TWO HOURS AT THE MINIMUM. Sometimes in airports, especially overseas, it can get very crazy very fast, and things go down. So to be safe make sure that the tickets are timed well.

Also have a international phone card. this will allow you to use phonebooths oversease, and call home from the other country with relative easy. I would also recommend knowing your country code. when calling from another country, you will have to dial different numbers before the phone number. for Korea its 82-010-02 or something like that. So make sure you know how to safely dial home from overseas.

Carry the phone number and address of your country's embassy overseas. If you get lost, that is the first and the last place you should go to.
I have tricks up my sleeve.

I would book the ticket from Cheapoair.com, they give the lowest price, including all taxes. then once you recieve the conformation, you go to the providing airline's website, and you use the information you have( reservation id/e-ticket number) and you get the best seats, and your meal preferance.

Then you check-in online with the providers airline, and show up 2-3 hours before departure, and all you have to do is check-in your baggage, and never carry more than 23 kgs per bag.

I know from experiance, because i booked a flight from Bangalore, India to Detroit, USA. And i got a deal for $1000, and the next cheapest price was $1400, so i saved a lot. I got a great flight with only one stop, with Air France. I went to airfrance.com, and got my seats for both the airplanes, then i got the meal-preference. Also i created a Flyingblue account (frequent flyer) then i used that number to get points (miles) for my long journey.

Also, carry a laptop with you, if you dont have one, dont fret over it.

When you choose seats, allways choose the ones that you wont have to disturb others.

And flight attendents get crazy when you keep empty food trays on the ground.

have a safe flight!!
I have booked many flights on line. My best advice would be to use a number of different sites to compare flight prices. Sites such as Orbitz, Expedia, Kayak or Opodo.

These will help you compare many airlines in one spot.

Once you have picked the flight you like, try going directly to the airline website and get a quote for the flight through that website. You may find it is even cheaper!
It is safe to buy tickets online directly from the airline's own website. I would be sceptical about other websites that offer cheap air tickets.

Also carry the credit card that you would be using for purchase.

As soon as you have made the purchase, call the airline and ensure everything is fine.

Do take a print out of your e-ticket for check-in (just to have a printed proof of your purchase).
I would go for a well-known airline with a good reputation because they can't get away with a bad service or hidden coasts as easy as unknown, foreign airlines and that is the best assurance to have a nice trip you will be able to get.
i assume you're an experienced traveler who has been buying tickets from travel agents? i would buy from the airline website. on certain routes i would still buy from an agent. and yes you should have your credit card at check-in. i have been asked to show it.
be sure to bring the credit card that you used if it's yours, if not, bring a photocopy of the credit card and a valid id of the owner.
